1. Describe the most important issue for your position.
The most important issues is to meet the challenges and
demands of taking on the full responsibilities of peace officer and the added
liabilities of processing civil and criminal cases. Preserve peace within
jurisdiction by all lawful means while protecting our citizensÕ civil rights.
2. How would you describe the position?
Constables are peace officers in the state of Texas in which
duties include: Execution and return of writs of possession or restitution
(evictions), serving orders of protection and orders prohibiting harassment,
summoning jurors, serving criminal and civil summons and subpoenas, providing
Judicial security, levying and returning writs of execution (seize property to
satisfy judgments), storing personal property levied upon, and conducting
constable sales of property levied on to satisfy judgments.
3. Why do constables exist, and why should the public care
about the position?
Constables exist to preserve the peace and good order of
their precincts and other precincts within the county. The public should care
about them due to the fact that they are involved with the protection and
rights of the people in the community as well as other law enforcement agencies
within our community. Other law enforcement agencies such as City PD and
Sheriffs Office are oftentimes undermanned and are unable to carry out all
emergency calls within the city and county limits. Therefore, constables have
the authority to support these other agencies within their jurisdiction.
4. How would you operate more efficiently and/or cut costs?
Once elected, I will have the opportunity to make a feasible
study regarding to the efficiency and operating cost, therefore, I request to
hold answer in question in abeyance.
5. What is the relationship between constables and other law
enforcement?
Constables with full law enforcement authority have the
power of search, seizure and arrest within the county. Generally, the only
difference between constables with full law enforcement authority and other law
enforcement officers is that their jurisdiction is limited to the boundaries of
the county they serve.
